The decoration on the present lot constitutes a rare type as it is arranged in concentric bands radiating outward from a pointed star panel. The dense motif is reminiscent of Near Eastern inlaid metalwork, particularly in the form and shape of their dining utensils intended for the oversea market. In retrospect, the craftmen in Jingdezhen created works of Near Eastern forms intended for foreign exotica. The aforementioned design was re-created by potters of the Yongzheng emperior. Compare with another exhibiting very similar decorative motifs sold at Sothyby’s Hong Kong, 31 October 1974, lot 227.
